The Pomodoro Technique

Procrastination is the worst enemy to one’s productivity, yet to every war there is a scheme or skill to win over the odds. In this week’s activity, we were asked to not only beat the enemy but eat it too! The Pomodoro technique allowed me to perform 4 tasks by rewarding myself at the end of each, by working within a deadline. Gladly, I have been following this technique for a long time now, so this experiment was not that difficult at all. I outlined 4 tasks:

1. Complete rest of the course work

2. Clean cupboard

3. Read a journal article

4. Exercise

The psychological effect of the timer proved highly useful in increasing productivity as I was inclined to finish before the alarm goes off. I decided to disable the internet on my phone so that I can focus better. The one interesting aspect of this activity is that it teaches you to value time and effort, by giving you a meter to gauge the time spent on the tasks. Even the little time rewarded as break helped me gain immense courage to fulfill the entire list of tasks within the allotted time. I work around the clock in such a way that each of my day’s activities wind up within a certain time period. Hence, I will continue to use this technique to get my daily tasks done by merely planning out through listing and timing.
